Color and Light in a Sonoran Fishing Town
The
Abruzzi Mountain Workshop has expanded to new destinations.
Last year’s Summer Intensive on the island of Ischia offered a
week of creative exploration inspired by the landscape and energy
of island life—from the colorful Mediterranean coastline to stunning
mountain views.
In
2005, our third year of travels—"in viaggio"— we’ve added
another unique destination—San Carlos, Mexico on the Sea of Cortes,
a picturesque fishing town where desert cacti give way to the
tranquil sea. This multi-media workshop, taught by Patricia Antonucci
and Barbara Schaefer, will continue our exploration of coastal
color and light.
Our
base in San Carlos will be the studio of local artist and marine
biologist Normangela Nuñez. From there, Normangela will lead morning
excursions to villages and remote islands off the coast where
we’ll observe plants, animals and marine life. Afternoons of instruction
and work in the studio will focus on incorporating our sketches
and inspirations into original artwork. The wide range of available
materials will include pastels, gouache and acrylics.
Students will come away with a new appreciation for the colors,
textures and lifeforms of this unique, unspoiled land.
This
one-week workshop includes:
- seven nights of hotel accommodations
- five hours of instruction each day
- daily excursions to islands and coastal sites
- daily lunch or dinner
- all materials and supplies
- daily critiques and our farewell dinner festa
Space
in this popular program is extremely limited.
The price per person, travel not included, is US $1850/EURO €1650.
The
workshop will be conducted by Patricia Antonucci and Barbara Schaefer.
